Because the REAL Census Bureau would not be calling you from Sellersburg, Indiana which is where these calls are originating from. I just received a call from them today so I decided to look up the phone number. Scammers!!!

I RECEIVED THE SAME CALL AND DO THE INTERVIEW OVER THE PHONE NOW I'M SCARED.

I kept getting calls on my cell phone from a woman claiming she was from the Census Bureau and that she needed to ask me some information. She asked me to confirm my address which was incorrect. It’s the same story most people have posted here. My boyfriend works for the Census Bureau, so the last time I got a call he answered and asked for the woman’s Census Bureau identification number. She had no idea what he was talking about. He told her that the address did not correspond with the phone number, but she didn’t ask him to give her the correct one. Sounds like a scam to me. I never got a survey to fill out so I’ve done nothing wrong.

You people are a bunch of paranoid idiots. The Census Bureau Telephone Center works 7 days a week and until 9pm nightly making calls. This is a legitimate number from The U.S.Census Bureau. The Census Bureau does over 40 different surveys and each survey has it's own designated toll free number. When you send in your American Community Survey and leave some answers blank-it's part of their protocol to call you to get answers to those questions you left blank. The American Community Survey is no big deal to fill out and totally harmless because they don't ask for social security numbers or bank account numbers ( so none of the information you provide on any question can harm you in anyway )-plus it is required by law under title 13-section 221 of the U.S.Code. Stop all your idiotic paranoia and do what's required of you by law.

Kept getting phone calls today (Sunday) from this number. First time I answered she wouldn't say anything so i hung up on her. Second time I answered she began laughing maniacally at just my Hello and then she hung up. Called back a third time and she began asking me questions I refused to answer. I told her I didn't care if she was from the Census Bureau that I wasn't answering any questions and I felt it was not any business of the Census Bureau about me and my family.

Recently I have receibed several calls from a lady claiming to be from the census bureau. She stated i did not answer all the questions and insisted on my telling her how much my property was worth. She actually got angry when I told her to calll the town hall. How can I stop these calls? Her number was 888-419-7586.

I keep getting these calls too. The number noted here and other numbers with the census bureau name as caller ID. Left a message on my voicemail with an open case ID I knew was not ours. Deleted and did not call back. Answered today and gave no info on the phone, although they tried. Get about 3-4 calls a day. How do I get them to stop? I am on the do not call registry and haven't owed a unpaid debt or money to a collection agency in about 30 years....

First we got the call on voice mail, then my daughter talked to the lady and she said with was a monthly census and mandatory, my daughter hung up. I got the call today and this lady was very pushy. I said to mail the form to our P.O. Box she said she couldn't. She told me it is a 5 year census however I never remember doing one 5 years ago. I told her I would not do it on the phone because I don't know who she is, she told me it wasn't a scam, LOL I am wondering how many people pulling a scam would say it was a scam! Well I told them to send someone to the house with proper ID. However how will that work with all the fake ID's out there. I will wait on the Goverments 10 year census that I trust!

I thought the Census was general population info,even claims the forms are anonymous.When did it change to targetting specific individuals?even having their addresses on file?!!!This sounds scary now.

If that is true then boy did my husband play the fool.When this b**** came to my front door, I gave her the 3 answers required by law.She kept pushing for more, but I did not answer.She got rude and threatening. I didnt care.She finally left. But then later on they came backwhile we were gone and left a card on our door asking usto call the number. My stupid husband calls and gives them all our personal info.I should have hit him in the head with an iron skillet.knock some sense into him.Is it true? Were we done by law after answering the 3 questions?If so, they kept coming back to our door, would not leave us alone,kept calling and leaving cards until my husband played theretarded dumbass and gave them what they wanted.Now whatever damage has been done,its his fault.are they coming back to harass us again in 2010?
