Received voicemail to land line identifying as Bank of America fraud protection line, requesting callback to confirm ATM card usage. Legitimate call; confirmed by first placing call to main BoA customer service number.
Caller ID showed as "unavailable," which is why I checked it out in advance before responding. Turned out to be legit. I urge everyone to do the same!
This is a fraud for sure. If you dial the number from your cell, you get a prompt to press * (star) for important information about the number. If you press * you get a text message. The message says that if you answer yes you will get important information about the number and be charged 9.98 for the service. I called my bank, BOA and they assured me that they are not calling me and that if they did they would include a name and an extension number with the message.
No it is a fraud, trying to get cell phone users to reply to a text message that will cost about $10. BOA always leaves a name and an extension to call
I don't know what is wrong with some of you people, but this number is ABSOLUTELY legit. I received an email alert for fraudulent activity. It told me how to verify that this was an email from BofA. I logged into my account, and not only was the alert notice on my account history, with THIS phone # listed, but there was in fact fraudulent activity on my card. If you get an email with this #, you can verify its authenticity by logging into your BofA account online and clicking on the "alerts" tab and looking at your alert history. If there's no alert listed as being sent to you, call the # on the back of your card - but I can guarantee you there will be. Kudos to BofA for taking such stringent measures to protect their customers. They locked down my account as SOON as the bogus charge was made.
This is the Bank of America line for issues with debit and credit cards. They called in order to investigate a problem with a card in our family. Do not take the word of comments on this site because the number may change over time. In order to confirm, call your BoA local branch and ask for the number they have to talk about possible fraudulent purchases posted against your BoA cards.
I received an unavailable call (I never answer those) and got a message to call BOA at this number. I checked my email and saw that I also had an email about this. The email is exactly like other alerts I get from BOA and from the same sender.I logged into my account (directly, not using any links) and confirmed the alert had indeed been issued for Irregular Debit Card Activity and I was instructed to call the same number. I checked my transactions and sure enough, there was unauthorized activity.Upon calling I was never asked for my SSN or date of birth. The rep read through the last few charges on my debit card and had me confirm the ones I made. Once I identified the fraudulent one (as well as a previous fraudulent one I had overlooked and one which had attempted to charge twice) he issued me a new debit card (the old one has always been in my possession but I have made numerous online purchases with it). I then spoke with the fraud claims dept. who refunded the charges and gave me a confirmation number. Again, I was never asked for my SSN or date of birth and both reps I spoke with were very professional. I should also note that the email did not ask me to respond with any personal information and simply asked me to go to the actual BOA site and proceed from there. The email address where I received the alert is the one associated with my BOA account and is an account which is not known to any other businesses or been used in any online purchases, accounts, or communications like that. If you feel uncomfortable about anything to do with this number, I would suggest visiting your local BOA and handling the alert that way. I found it to be a legitimate process though. If you're going to handle this sort of thing over the phone, I suggest not giving any info to an incoming call ("unavailable" could be anyone). You're better off confirming the number and calling out yourself.
I received an automated call from 8778335617 I did NOT call it back... I checked online like I always do when I get an unsolicited call or e-mail that I'm uncertain about. I have NEVER gotten a legitimate phone call like this. NEVER give out personal information to someone who CALLS YOU... if they are legit they will KNOW all your information. This is slicker than the usual scam. Please do NOT be duped!
