Actually I just had it confirmed that it IS a legit number... 2/25/09I called the general BoA number that I always dial when I need anything and they did confirm that the number in that email is a valid BoA phone number.

This IS a legit number, you guys are idiots. I got the number directly from BOA when i called to tell them I was going out of the country. The email you got is a copy/paste from the BoA login page and is a SCAM, they are trying to phish through email responses to that email. Don't respond to the email, call BOA for yourself and have them connect you if you are still worried.

I just confirmed that this IS a legit number. Under my alerts on the BoA site, it also lists this number to call fraud protection. Again, to verify the number, just go to your alerts after logging into BoA, and under current alerts, it should list it.

it's a legit #. the link in the e-mail is likely setup for phishing. in all honesty, just login to BoA. check the #s. It's listed. The link posted by one of the users above, clearly is weird, just by looking at it's format. They list a legit #, to establish some level of trust. The link however is where they can get you. As always use your head with this. Wonder how much of the fraud department's time has been wasted by people calling, thinking they're onto the "rep" on the line.

The number is legit but the email is a scam. I received 2 emails with different "last log in dates". Its a phising trip. If you try to log in from the link than you will be in trouble. Delete the email and if you are worried contact Bank of America directly ask to speak to the fraud department and ask how they would normally notify someone of fraud.

Received an email claiming suspicious activity on my account. Called the number on the back of my card and it turns out that this number is a fraudulent number. It is NOT a legit BoA phone number. They told me to forward any emails like this to abuse@bankofamerica.comI decided to call this number afterwards. They asked me for my 16 digit account number. I entered in a fake number and the system accepted it. Then I was transfered to a "customer service rep" who began by asking me my social security number, birth date and then my name (which I made up) then he started to say "Yes I do see some suspicious activity on your account and *click*" YEP! He hung up on me.If that doesn't seem phishy to you, then you must have mental problems. For those that claim that this IS a real number, are most likely the scammers themselves.

It is usually easy to spot a fraud in this email scam. Just point to the highlighted goto site and leave the mouse there for a moment. Look down where your internet address bar is(Left hand corner and it goes off when you move your mouse) it will show actual address of the place where you will send your info. Mine said click here for Banl of America but the site in the corner said Den Maren @alb.de boa or some hogwash like that. If it says click on Bank of America it should show Bank of America in the address highlighted bar.

I am a BofA customer, got a text message on my phone, so I logged in to my account online to check it out. The text msg and number are indeed valid. They ask for your acct # & SS# as part of their way of verifying your ID. If you aren't calling from the phone they have registered for you, then you can't do anything with the acct. No clue why non BofA customers got this msg.
