Got the same thing mentioned above! They are freaking Indian scamers!!I would suggest you to call amazon right away, and verify your bank transactions.
Received the same type of call that all of these comments mention. He called me on my work line (which is not linked to Amazon at all) and wanted to confirm a large purchase (which I haven't made any recent purchases) on my Mastercard (which I don't have a Mastercard). Do not give any information - seems to be a scammer looking to do some social engineering.
Got a phone call saying someone was trying to use a (previously cancelled) AMEX card on a different account for a $2k purchase. Sounded like an India-based call center. Told me to call back at 866-216-1072. Called Amazon customer service first, they had removed the card from their records when I first cancelled it and had no activity on that card. Scammer. Call Amazon Customer Service first if you get these calls -- 1 (888) 280-4331
I got the same call this morning from Amazon from a lady with a strong accent. She didn't ask for any personal info or ask me to verify anything. She had my name, email and last 4 digits of my cc #. Said someone set up an acct on Amazon w/my cc # and tried to purchase a gift card. She followed up with an email from Amazon confirming the fraudulent acct was deleted and the pending sale cancelled. I called the CC co. and 3 other fraudulent purchases were made yesterday. I think the call was legit. Why would a scammer alert me that my cc was being used fraudulently?
Just recieved my call 2x times back to back. The second time a message was left that it was amazon calling to verify a recient transaction and needed to check on info. He had the last 4 of my card i use for amazon. Very thick middle eastern accent as everyone else has described. I also have a charge for $1 on the card today. I only use it for amazon payments. I have a feeling this is a leaked info from amazon or a amazon phone app. Time to change the numbers.
It appears that hackers had penetrated security at CitiCard (btw, one of actually six banks that made it into the news again this week for criminal charges levied against them by the DOJ). Maybe / probably security was also compromised at Amazon as well. It might help us all if corporations like these two ceased shipping U.S. jobs overseas to 3rd world holes. Anyway, the banksters at Citi are already aware of this security breach and have issued their customers new cards. Do NOT call these scammers back that called from 206-508-4014 and do NOT give them any information. This is a phishing scam.
This is 100% a scam. I've been in contact with Amazon and they clearly stated that no one would ever call me directly asking about an order. To quote their email directly: "For your information we wont make outgoing calls. The call you received wasn't from Amazon.ca."I only received the email AFTER I posted that this was happening. The "order" was for a rubber watch band from a company called "K Japan Online Shop". There was a charge to my Mastercard for almost $600. Last time I checked a watch band didn't cost that much.
