This is fraud. They called me today and I called back. The first thing they asked me for was my credit card number. There was no greeting. I said I don't even know what card you're asking about because they didn't even announce what company they were from. They didn't ask me for my name or to confirm any information on my account just my card number. I told them I wouldn't give that information out. They would have that if they were really from Bank of America. I then called Bank of America and they told me they would NEVER ask for your card number! That they already have this information. They said there was nothing wrong with my card and that they would report this number to their fraud department.
I don't even have a BofA card-never had one ever. So why would their "fraud dept" be calling me? Every time I've tried to call this number back, it's busy.
Folks, There is a simple answer. All the sniping back and forth is ridiculous. This number IS Bank of America's fraud. Department. A legitimate call from them asks for no PII (personally identifiable information). From their end, they DO provide PII, and work with you to confirm whether recent activity was legitimate or not. Now, some people claim to have received calls from this number that were: uninformed, unprofessional, asked for PII, etc. I have no doubt that happens. It is a trivial matter to spoof your phone number. I can call any of you and haev your caller ID display that number or any other. The key here is to use the same smart tactics many of you mention, regardless of who your think owns the number your phone is displaying. Those smart tactics include: calling back and/or not providing any PII.
Yesterday I got a call from Bank of America. "Card Service" was on my caller ID. They asked my personal information: SS number and card number. I didn’t give them this information. I told I will call their main phone number to speak to their customer service and hung up. I then tried to access my online account but could not due to a "fraud alert". Have to call BOA to find out what happened.
I am pretty sure it was Bank of America. I don't answer call I don't know and they didn't leave a message. My husband was out of town and we forgot to call. I also got an email and I talk to my husband and he clarified everything up B of A. But if I am (or you are) concerned, it doesn't hurt to call the credit card number on the back and ask for the FRAUD DEPARTMENT. Usually if I have problems, I get a call right after a transaction, and they will keep trying till they get a hold of me to clarify the concern that was found (if I remember correctly). There are mixed comments here so if you are worried, just call the number on the card to make sure. Hope this helps.
Bank of America Fraud.I was very suspicious and searched the net and called a couple BofA official numbers. This number is legit; but, I would not give my SS out to random calls. I instead hung up and dialed the number on the bank of my credit card. There were fraudulent purchases on my card and I was able to close it. Nice catch BofA.
This number is legit, if you pay for credit protection they monitor your account. If you make a big purchase out of the normal city limits you live in and it looks suspicious they call you. You pay for.the protection look at your invoice. If you don't want them watching your spending and possible break it habits. Don't pay for the service.Just saying read your contract
calls from this number show up as 'private caller". the latest call was at 8:27 a.m. sunday morning. when i answer the recorded voice says "estimated wait time in excess of 6 minutes", and if i hold then after 6 minutes the message says" we are unable to take your call at this time, please call back". whatever. this no. calls my home line every day with this scenerio.
