This is a valid number. I called BofA from the number on my credit card and they claimed it is a company called FIA Card Services who contract with BofA to handle the extra volume of calls and fraud issues to ensure they are taken care of immediately. I would suggest that everyone still always call the number on their card directly bc this type of fraud is known and it's better to be safe than sorry.
I got this call too & didn't trust it. I hung up and called BOA Customer Service. They told me there were no fraudulent charges & even took down this number to report it. Then 5min later I get a BOA email stating fraudulent charges were identified on one of my credit cards and it was put on freeze. I had to call and verify that I did indeed make those charges. So apparently the BOA Customer Service number is independent from BOA credit card services and they have no idea what the other does.
Just received a call from this number and the automated system asked me if 4 pending charges made with my BofA credit card were made by me. Two of them were not and I was passed on to a fraud representative. (At no time was I asked for any personal information except the last 4 of the card number and the last 4 of my SSN.) She was very nice and we quickly determined that there were 2 charges of around $250 each that were fraudulent. She cancelled the card and issued me a new one and said I should receive it in 5 to 7 business days. This is not a bogus call!!! I do all of my banking online and the account involved has already been closed and removed from the list of accounts at BofA online. If the person did not work at BofA, she wouldn't have been able to do that.
I just received two calls from this number. Thanks to this website, I called customer service on the back of my b of a card and they confirmed that this IS a scam. B of A said there was no fraudulent activity on my card. DO NOT give them any information.
Got this call, said his name was TOBIA, from Bank of America.looked like some one bought something I would not buy. Give him my phone number and address then he wanted my card number and I told him I would call Bank of America and verify it. When I did there wasn't any thing charged to me that I didn't put on it.
I received two phone calls from this number on 7/15/12. I called back and the gentleman immediately asked me for my credit card number. I asked what for and he responded "for your account". When I asked what account he was talking about, he reported he did not know until he had my credit card number to pull up my account. I hung up. No company would ever call you and just ask for a credit card number.
Agree w/ G. Creason but Theresa and others... wow... Paranoid? …A little? Where's your tin-foil hat? Jesus people it's no fraud.... The only frauds here are the people that protest obsessively. I rarely use my B of A card, but when I tried yesterday to order a $500 laptop online, (unusual behavior for me) my card info didn’t go through. No big deal, I used my Wells card instead. First thing this AM at 8:01 I missed a call from Bank of America… no message. So I looked it up here... They called again this afternoon… asking me about my card use… online… LAST NIGHT! So tell me how can this possibly be a fraud when I was the only one aware of the card use and I was the person doing the ordering? B of A was doing exactly what I expect and hope my credit company would do…. Covering my a*ss. I understand being vigilant but lighten up a little and do your freakin home work before screaming fraud… wolf…. Zombies! Wow.
Figured I'd post a comment since I use this site a lot and it definitely helped today! :-)Got this call (we don't answer these calls) and looked it up on here. Called Bank of America and sure enough, it was them. Guess a charge raised a red flag and they just wanted to verify it. However, we did not call the number on caller ID, we called the number on the back of the card (BofA actually thanked us for doing that and NOT calling the number on the phone). So while it's not a fraudulent call, I still would not recommend ever calling the number on the phone. Call each card company individually and see what they say.
okay all if this was Bank of America than why on my caller id would it show up as "Joey Peterson"1 302-731-1166I just called the # and it has fake music and then the man picks up. really come on!SCAMMERS STAY OFF MY $&?!!!#:-) thank you
Legit call: I answered, it was a robo-call telling me to press 1 if I was the cardholder. Instead, I hung up and called the 800 number on my card. Sure enough, they had placed a fraud alert because of a purchase I HAD made that was out of my usual pattern. They just wanted to be sure the charge was mine. Good job, B of A!!!
