Got a bunch of calls from this number claiming to be from BoA and that there was fraud on my card. NEVER give any info to people who call you. If your bank actually calls you, then you won't ever have to "Verify" your info because they know your phone number and they know it's you. The number may infact belong to Bank of America, but anyone can spoof a caller id these days. If you get one of these calls, hang up and call the number on the back of your credit card. That's the only way to know for sure that you're talking to your bank
302.731.1166 left a message, the gist of which is: "This is Bank of America, we have received information that your [Visa] credit card may have been compromised. As a result, we have send you a new card that you should activate using the information on the back of the card."Fair enough, except no replacement card had been received. After a couple of days, we called the number on the back of our card (800.205.6247) and was told the card looked fine. Rep then checked recent transactions with us, which were fine. With upcoming travel pending, the rep made a note of this, then provided number (866.344.8899) for fraud dept. and transferred the call; not sure why, but appeared to be sort of a reassurance...As it turned out, and this is not very reassuring, 866.344.8899, is a normal business hours number, and it was/is Sunday...Tentative conclusion: left hand does not know right hand....
I just got a call from this number a few hours ago.....automated call saying it was Bank of America fraud dept, which immediately got me going since I have several BOA accounts. Then it was press one for this, press two for that and if you are not Linda Smoots, press three. Since I am not Linda and never have been, I pressed three and the call was immediately disconnected. I've had the same phone number for years and BOA has had it as well so I'm not sure why they would be calling me looking for someone else, unless "Linda" had the number before me and never let anyone know that she'd changed it. Anyway, since I was alittle freaked about the whole thing, I called the number back and some lady answered. "Hello" she says and I tell her I just got a call from this number stating it was the fraud dept of a bank. She went off on me and started yelling about how I needed to redial the complete number, which I did, and she said something about getting several of these calls every day. And before I could respond, she hung up on me. After that, it made me wonder if this was really legit or not. I've read a number of posts that say it really is BOA....and alot of posts that say it's a scam. I really don't know what to think but since they were looking for "Linda" and not me.....and my accounts are all in order, I'm not too worried about it now.
It sounds to me like the posts that are saying this is a legitimate call from BoA are part of the scam.NO CREDIT CARD COMPANY WOULD EVER CALL YOU COLD AND ASK FOR YOUR FULL ACCOUNT NUMBER!NEVER give a cold caller your credit card number -- you'll be sorry.
This is 100% fake. Received the same message everyone else got - "Fraud on your Bank of America account." I called the Bank of America posted number on their website and talked to a rep there, who confirmed there was nothing fishy going on with my account at all, and that the message was fraudulent. If you get a call from this number, don't be stupid. If you think there might actually have been fraud on your account, don't call this number back - call the actual bank number.
I missed the first call from them. I picked up the second call after researching the number and checking my B of A account. The automated system told me the last 4 digits of my credit card and then asked for my billing zip or last 4 digits of my SSN to verify who I was. They then had me verify the last three charges on my card, which happened to be legitimate. It's good that they are monitoring activity on the cards. The only information I needed to provide was my billing zip code.
Called Bank of America, THEY SAID THIS IS NOT THEIR NUMBER. Never give information for someone who called you, rather call the 800 number at the back of your card.
I ignored these calls until I looked at this site and found out it was Bank of America. I answered the call tonight and found out I had 3 big charges today on my card - on line- from South Africa. I am very thankful that BOA monitors my card and they will remove the fraud charges- my card has been cancelled - I will get a new one in 5 to 7 days. They do NOT ask for your SS - they ask for the last 4 digits or for your zip code.
Had not used my credit card for a while and booked a trip through Expedia (air, lodging & car rental) this set off a few bells and raised a couple of flags, which were cleared up with a couple of questions and answers. Had these charges not be legit it's nice to know that someone is watching.
