Its the code red system that was calling me from Giles County in Virginia. NO spam no harassment nothing of that source.
I received 3 calls in one night between 6:15AM and 6:29AM. I hope this does not happen night after night. I think it is a good emergency system, however, it must be activated during the later morning hours (9AM-11AM)not 6AM when citizens are sleeping. They left a message about a missing woman and asked to call the Hialeah Police department.
Called at 2:23 AM... said "This is the Wichita Falls Police Department. There is a situation in your area and you are advised to stay in your residence until we call back." From the above reports and those on other sites, this is obviously a HOAX!
We received a call about 10:35 pm on April 14th. The caller said there was an amber alert in our area. The caller said they were from the Sheriff's office.Friends told my wife this morning that there was an amber alert in regards to a missing boy. I did not subscribe to any alert network, and do not wish to receive such calls in the future. Please remove me from any such list.
I called police department and was told that the alert was real. I received a call from the same number again at 4:40 AM advising that the critical situation in my neighborhood was cleared and it was safe now to leave my home. So I have to reverse my previous post. Apparently, this number is used by a service that provides Code Red calling for many communities.
As others have indictated this is a CodeRED Emergency Notification System number, a system used by municipalities for getting information out to their community; they have complete control over the messages and when they are sent out. If you do not desire to recieve such calls, contact your local government to be put on a no call list.I received a call concerning brush fires, evacuations, and road closures, even though the event was 12 miles distant. It is, however, comforting to know that our taxes are put to good use.
This is the call back number for the CodeRED Emergency Notification System. This system is used by cities, counties, and local government for getting information out to their community; they have complete control over the messages and when they are sent out. If you are receiving calls and it is inconvenient for you, you can simply contact your local officials and request to be put on their no call list. The other issues express in previous postings have more to do with your phone company than CodeRED but there is not enough room or time to address them.CodeRED is also used by “A Child is Missing”; a national non-profit organization that issues missing persons alerts free for local law enforcement for missing children and at risk adults. A Child is Missing issuing CodeRED alerts has lead to over 400 safe recoveries.CodeRED is also used by some colleges, universities, and K-12 schools to send emergency information to students/parents, staff, and faculty.
City of Stevens Point, WI implemented the code red system in December 08. Called three times without leaving a message. I called back and the test message was relayed to me.Used for school lock downs, emergency weather, lost children. Implemented by Emergency Management. Test message did not indicate if there was a way to opt out, if there isn't then I'll cancel the land line. I left a message. When I called the sheriff and then the city police, it sounded like they were getting flooded with angry calls. Good. Hope the person who implemented this intrusive system goes to telephone h-e-"double hockey sticks".
Automated call at 12:15 am stating that somebody (harmless) might be wandering on the street within one mile of my house. Woke me up, of course. What was I supposed to do? Get up, dress, and go out to search the neighborhood? No possible good outcome is possible from making these calls in the middle of the night.
