As others have said, this number is used by the IRS to funnel most outgoing calls. It shows up on caller ID when my boss calls me. (Yeah I work for 'em, I'm not proud of it.) Scammers can spoof this number. If you're not expecting a call from the IRS, assume it's not from them. IRS will always send letters before attempting a call, and will never demand payment over the phone. If the "agent" tries for money, tell him you faxed a check last week. :)

Charlie, your claiming that you personally know the IRS agent through work. You are part of the scamming network. You probably do know because its your scam! Everyone beware!

My wife works for the IRS- I received a call from this number then checked w/ her. IT is not the IRS-they use snail mail and would NOT cold call you.

901-214-2999 is the number that appears when many IRS offices place calls out. They use Cisco IP Phones. The IRS does absolutely call taxpayers but will not threaten to arrest people over the phone.

It is the IRS. While they normally do not call anyone, but if working with a revenue officer to resolve matters, this is one of the numbers the IRS will use.

You're either an idiot or a scammer (or both) as the IRS DOES NOT CALL YOU-they send SNAIL MAIL and A LOT OF IT! Plus, a search of the number shows NO LINK to the IRS-so tell me, how do you know?
