Really? You can't tell it's a scam? Instead you believe in conspiracy theories. It's a scam! The IRS is not based out of the state of Washington or Tennessee.
I work for the IRS and I had this number call me. First off (from some other posts) IRS only handles federal taxes not state, so that's a red flag showing is a scammer. Only certain departments make outbound calls but you would have had plenty of snail mail. If you get calls like this, call the IRS 800-829-1040 and report it.
It is the IRS, but it is their Audit Division. It's a standard outbound number for them, but the call back number should be valid.
This Scam is Most Likely thru a Magic Jack type Hack. Came in as "US Gov" on caller ID, Did Not answer and Caller Did Not Leave Message. I Called back and recorded message says that if "IRS Agent Caller Did Not Leave a Number That They Would Call Me Back".......I cant wait till they do as I Have Given This Information to a REAL IRS Advocate that is helping me with a real issue.
