This number may be legitimate or a scam.Legitimate in my case today because an email from BoA's fraud department arrived a few minutes after the phone call to me went unanswered. It may be a scam for others because caller ID numbers can be spoofed.
This is a legitimate call from B of A. I called back using the 1-800 number on my credit card and they confirmed that they were trying to reach me to confirm a suspicious charge. (Turns out the charge was legitimate).
This is a valid BofA number - their customer fraud unit.Got two calls to my cell from this number - no vmail - looked the number up here and called BofA. One of my credit cards does indeed have a fraud alert.Michael
Got three calls today, third call they left a message. I didn't trust it, so I called the 800 number on the back of my Bank of America Visa, and they did confirm that 302-731-1166 is the BofA fraud department. They were calling because two unusual charges were pending on my account, and it turns out $500 of fraudulent charges had been placed on my card. They had to cancel the card and send a new one. I will say that the 302 area code message and phone system seems shady; I didn't trust it, but if you get a call, you should definitely contact BofA through the 800 number on your card to make sure your account is okay.
So how do you explain all of the legitimate calls that so many others have rec'd? I got one in the last two days and guess what? My card had been used without my knowledge...oh, about 1200 miles away. You're right, call a number you know like the one on the back of the card or check your account online but to say it's a "fraud", when so many others find it real, is just idiotic.
I'd be happy to give you my number Mike and tell you about my real experience with my card being used, without my permission. How can you look at all the real responses and even examples and say it's a fraud. What I really think is your a fraud.
Legit numbers. Went their the online process of verifying when I also got a notice from Bank of America (it's set to send me notices to my phone and email) online and I too had my card used without my permission. I live in TX and it was used once at a Raceway convenient store in Michigan and then a pending charge for 275 at Walgreen's (I assume in the same city in Michigan). Card cancelled and being issued a new one from BofA.
i got this call today and saw it might be bank of america..didn't answer but googled it....i checked my account online and saw there was a fraudulant charge on my visa so called thier fraud dept. number on the interent and had to dispute it...
bank advised these are scammers, attemping to gain access to your personal information, do not give them anything related to account numbers, pins, or ss numbers
