Received a call from 620-860-2755, I just told them they had the wrong number. I called the number back (620-860-2755) it said it was Portfolio Recovery and that it was a debt collection agency. Always best to just hang up on them, they have the worst collection habits, and should be reported to the Attorney General of the state they are collecting in, that is usually the only way to stop them.
A woman who didn't id herself or company called looking for someone with same first name, but when I politely explained that this was my new cellphone and I don't know the person she named, she began repeating "So this is his contact number and you have the same first name, but aren't him?" in a very accusatory tone. Go figure! What are the odds of two people firstname "John". It was very noisy on her end, and when I commented she insisted it was quiet there. I told her several times not to call this number, but when I began demanding to know who she was and whom she worked for she hung up. Filed a complaint at DoNotCall.gov, and look forward to suing them if they keep this garbage up. Lots of unemployed lawyers in need of a hand. :-)
Ann this number shows up on my cell phone and i am glad to find this web site. I get tired telling them that they have the wrong person and number because they are looking for the previous owner of the number they call who i happen to know.
I have had a dealing with these scam artist two years ago concerning a "bounced check" that was written 12 years prior to them contacting me. So that now makes it 14 years ago. Anyway they said I had written a check to Firestone for just over $218.27 and with all the bounced check fees, late fees, and interest I owed them somewhere around $851.64 and if I didn't pay they were going to have me arrested. I asked them a few simple questions that you can see below:Me: What is the case or reference number?James: XXXXXXXXXXXWhat state was the check written in? James: (fumbled around then said) New MexicoMe: That is odd I have never been to New MexicoJames: It’s your check and we are going to press charges against you and have you arrested if it’s not paid in the next 15 days. Me: I said well I will tell you what I will pay it if you can provide me proof that I am the one who wrote the check. So send me a copy of the check and if it came from me then I will pay it. James: I can't do that. We don't have the check Firestone does all we have is a slip of paper saying that you wrote the check.Me: So you can’t provide me with any proof?James: NoMe: So you expect me to pay a debt that you claim I owe without any proof.James: You will either pay it or go to jail!Me: Your company will hear from my attorneyJames: Click (hung up the phone)I then sent them did a little research concerning the statute of limitations and come to find out New Mexico statute of limitations is 6 years not 12 so even if I had been to New Mexico and written Firestone (who I have never used) a check the statute of limitations had already expired. So I sent them a nice little letter back informing them of the law and that if they ever tried to do this again to me I would see them in court. That was the last I heard from them till today when they called twice looking for my ex-wife of 10 years. Too bad I don’t have her number I would gladly send them her way… LOlAnyway watch your back get as much information as you can from them, do your homework, and use what they give you against them to stop them.
Can you please explain again? This number has been calling me...and ugh...can't figure out why. So, when they call again I ask for a written verification of the debt to be mailed to me? What do you mean "written agreement with your signature"? Want to get them to stop calling me. Your saying they won't really have anything to mail me, so I send them a letter with receipt verification to only contact me by mail? Thanks for you help!
