Yep, it is legit. It's CIBC but bad business none the less. I very recently became a CIBC credit card customer and was considering switching my accounts to here BUT now I am being spammed out the wazoo with emails (which I don't really mind) BUT they are also starting to call me everyday to offer me services while they are spamming me out of the wazoo. Now I am pissed, and WILL NOT consider moving my accounts to CIBC. Nice marketing tactic CIBC, you made my choice easy not to deal with you for anything else. So I called back the number, waited on hold and made it quick, said please take my number and remove from your list. I've been on hold to do this and you shouldn't be calling me everyday in the first place. He asked for my credit card number, and even if legit I gave him an earful as no one should ask you to provide your credit card number over the phone when it is a telemarketing call. Calling telephone banking is one thing, or your branch and giving your credit card number BUT they do not need my credit card number to remove my phone number. Look up my phone number and remove it from your list clown, easy! Why oh why do these companies think this method of marketing attracts customers, jesus christ it's pathetic!
Just did some more checking into this. There is a CIBC outbound calls center and there is also a scam. The legit call center will only ask if you want to book an appointment to update your accounts. THEY WILL NEVER ASK FOR ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!! If someone is calling you and asking for your postal code it's a scam!! Apparently there was a situation a while back where CIBC sold off some info to a debt collector company and it got into the wrong hands at some point.
I kept getting this phone call from the number 1-800-741-4591 EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past year.
I emailed CIBC through my online account and asked if this number was legitimate. Here was the response:Dear Caroline,Thank you for taking the time to write to us.I certainly understand your concern. We can verify that this number is legitimate. When CIBC dials out to customers to conduct customer satisfaction surveys, share campaigns, offers, or information with them, they must verify that the person they are speaking to is the person who owns the account and is, therefore, authorized to make changes or open a new CIBCproduct or service. This is done to ensure that any information divulgedby CIBC will be to the appropriate party.CIBC will ask certain questions to verify identity. These questions do not tend to be of a nature that would make fraud possible. The main questions CIBC would ask in these scenarios are, generally, questions concerning birth date, mother's maiden name, postal code, etc. This information is considered public record, to a certain extent, and is considered safe. I understand and appreciate your concern for the safetyof your accounts during one of these calls. Please rest assured that CIBC representatives will never ask for sensitive information like account numbers, card verification values on credit cards (which is only needed when making remote purchases), and other information of that nature over the phone. If you have been calledby an individual claiming to be from CIBC and they ask you for that typeof information, please note the phone number (if you have call display) and hang up the phone. Then call CIBC Telephone Banking at 1-800-465-2422 to report the call. Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Also, if you prefer to not receive direct mail or telephone calls from the CIBC group of companies, please write us back or call CIBC TelephoneBanking. It may take up to 10 business days before you stop receiving emails. It may take up to 30 days before you stop receiving calls from the CIBC Group of Companies, and up to 3 months before you stop receiving direct mail from the CIBC Group of Companies.Thank you for using Online Banking.Sincerely,HatemInternet Communications Specialist
It is Cibc....but screw em anyway, they called me to conduct a survey about my customer experience about an hour after i visited a bank teller. I dont have the patience for these kinds of calls, i have 2 babies ( a kid and a husband) a dog a cat and 3 horses to deal with so when they call i just simply tell them i dont have time for their calls and they leave me alone
I get a call sometimes upto 3 times a day from this number. I do not answer as i dont answer callls from unknown callers . This is becomi g very annoying and i wish they would stop already..
This number called me in the evening. The caller hardly spoke English, she did not even know my name, but said she wants to discuss my financial situation by phone.
I called them and asked for them to stop calling me. They said okay. I told them I was a loyal customer and they shouldn't be calling me at 9pm ever.
